Sail in Greece as well		Head west some 14 miles and you come to the charming fishing and farming hamlet of Vathi on the Island of Kalimnos. Nestled in the head of a narrow, steeply cleft fjord the village is home to a number of Byzantine Churches with magnificent frescoes and a collection of fascinating lime stone caves. Only 3 miles from the Turkish coast and shielding the entrance of the Gulf of Gokova is Kos a lush, green and wooded island. Dominating the entrance to the harbour is a Castle built by the Knights of St John behind which the lively town openly exhibits artefacts from a wide range of ages and cultures. A little further south is Niseros, the Volcano Island where you can walk deep into the still bubbling crater or Simi with its picturesque neo-classical village climbing precariously up the steep sides of the harbour. For those who have an EU passport or are from countries which do not need a visa for Greece you can simply cast off and sail to one of these captivating islands. Once in your first Greek port	the Harbour Master's office with Ship's Papers, Passports and euros in hand. After just fifteen minutes and a few signatures you will be given a Greek Sailing Permit. Armed with this you are now free to meander around the islands or cruise back and forth between them and the Turkish coast. Two fascinating countries in one superb fun filled holiday!!! Although the Dodecanese islands have endured many years of occupation they are still intrinsically Greek. With habitation dating back to the Neolithic period and having been of huge strategic importance throughout the ages there is a vast array of mesmerising historical sites to be discovered. These along with the myriads of quaint fishing villages, sheltered bays, craggy inlets, secluded beaches and landscapes that range from dramatic and volcanic to lush and wooded ensures that there truly is something for everyone. Predictable and exciting winds every afternoon and short distances between the islands makes it effortless to sail the entire group. Just an afternoon's sail north from our base is sacred Patmos with its imposing Monastery of St John standing high above the harbour. Here you can visit the cave where St John the divine dictated the wild poetry of the Apocalypse in the Book of Revelations.
