General Information

General information
Life in Turkey and Greece is generally informal even in restaurants and bars. Lightweight trousers, shorts and t-shirts are the order of the day. Some protection from the sun is needed, and a sun hat, long sleeves and plenty of sun lotion would be advisable. We also suggest you bring along a pullover, or sweat shirt for the cooler evenings, as well as light waterproofs. Stowage space onboard yachts is always limited so please bring soft bags in preference to suitcases.

Cost of living and provisions
Turkey: Fresh food is cheap and abundant. Shopping at the markets is an experience not to be missed. There are bakers, grocers and butchers at most ports of call. As in any foreign country it is advisable to bring along your favourite items as imported goods can be expensive or unobtainable: e.g. pork/ham products, tinned luncheon meats, breakfast cereals, savoury spreads, toiletries, sun lotion, and books. Eating out is incredibly cheap and we find that most of our guests take advantage of this, calculating the average meal costs approximately £8 per head, including drinks. Also Turkish carpets and leather goods are very inexpensive and of high quality.

Greece: Fresh food and local produce is reasonably priced in the Islands. Groceries in the supermarkets are similarly priced as the rest of Europe. There are bakers, grocers and butchers at most ports of call. In the larger ports and their supermarkets you can find almost anything that you would in Europe. Eating out can vary in price, the small local village restaurants can be very good value especially if you eat the local cuisine. Eating out in the larger towns or going to more international restaurants will be similarly priced to those in the rest of Europe.

Currency
Turkey: Take Cash (clean, unmarked notes) or Travellers Cheques. They are easily exchanged in most towns in Turkey where a far better rate will be obtained than if changed in the UK. Travellers Cheques can be cashed but there is a commission fee for this facility. Credit cards are acceptable in major towns. Scottish notes are difficult to change even at the banks.

Greece: Take Cash, Pounds Sterling or Euros (clean, unmarked notes) or Travellers Cheques. Credit cards are acceptable in most ports, shops and restaurants. Scottish notes are difficult to change even at the banks.

Passports & visas
Turkey: Turkish immigration laws require you to obtain your visa online. Applicants need to log onto www.evisa.gov.tr and fill in the requested information. Once approved and payment made then you will be able to print off your e-visa which you need to show to immigation upon entry into Turkey.

Greece: There is no visa requirement for European Passport Holders. Passport holders of other nationalities should check on current visa requirements before travelling.

Vaccinations
At present there are no compulsory vaccination requirements for Turkey or Greece. For further information please consult your doctor.

Cancellations
Cancellations must be received in writing as soon as possible and will become effective from the time received. Please also contact your travel insurance provider to notify them of your claim of compensation.
